Julia Roberts wishes to do ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ sequel

‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ is the movie that actress Julia Roberts instantly picks when asked which of her many successful romantic comedies she would love to be in a follow-up to, according to People. During an episode of “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” a viewer asked the Oscar-winning actress to name a movie that she thought should have a sequel. She answered right away.

“That’s a pretty fantastic question and I’ve never been asked it,” Roberts, 56, said in response before choosing “My Best Friend’s Wedding.” Upon its premiere in June 1997, the comedy achieved global success at the box office. In the P.J. Hogan film, it centres on Roberts as Jules, a food journalist who discovers she is in love with her longtime best friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney) when he announces he is engaged to Kimmy (Cameron Diaz). Jules spends the next four days trying to ruin his wedding out of desperation to win his love. She even goes so far as to pretend to be engaged to her gay best friend, George (Rupert Everett).

Jules’s luck runs out when Michael decides on Kimmy in the end. Nonetheless, there’s a tonne of material to explore for a sequel because of the characters’ depth and their interactions, as Roberts told 55-year-old Andy Cohen. “It’s packed with people,” she remarked, adding that she was interested in “seeing what they’re doing and how Kimmy and Michael’s marriage is going.”
