Jodhpur’s political stalwart Kailash Bhansali passes away

Kailash Bhansali, who served twice as a legislator from the Jodhpur city assembly seat, passed away at the age of 82 on Thursday at the MDHM hospital. After the news of Bhansali’s demise, known as Kaka, the city assembly constituency is engulfed in grief. Kailash Bhansali had been suffering from a lung ailment for the past two to three months. He was undergoing treatment at AIIMS Jodhpur for a few days, and then an ICU was set up at his Shastri Nagar residence for his treatment.
On Wednesday night, he faced difficulty breathing, and he was taken to Mathura Das Mathur (MDM) Hospital. There, he was put on a ventilator, however, he passed away on Thursday. After receiving the news of senior leader Kailash Bhansali’s demise, BJP workers are gathering at Bhansali’s Shastri Nagar residence. The last journey of former legislator Bhansali was taken out from his Shastri Nagar residence to Sivanchi Gate Swargashram at 4:30 pm. Due to illness, Kailash Bhansali gave his seat to his nephew Atul Bhansali in 2018. However, Atul Bhansali lost in front of Manisha Panwar. This time, Atul Bhansali is again in the field as the BJP candidate from the Jodhpur city assembly. He will be contesting against Congress legislator and candidate Manisha Panwar.

Kailash Bhansali’s political journey
Bhansali started his political career in college. In 1958, he became an active member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He remained a member of the state executive committee of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. In 1961, he became the secretary of the student union at S.M.K. College, Jodhpur. In 1964, he became the general secretary of the student union at Jodhpur University.
Until 1977-78, he served as the district secretary of the Janata Party in Jodhpur. In 2005, he became the treasurer of the Rajasthan BJP. He remained active in all public elections in Jodhpur since 1960. In the 2008 Rajasthan State Assembly elections, he actively entered politics for the first time, contested as the BJP candidate from the city assembly and defeated Congress’ Jugal Kabra with more than 8,500 votes.
In the 2013 Rajasthan State Assembly elections, he was again made the BJP candidate from the city assembly, and he defeated Congress’ Suparas Bhandari with more than 14,500 votes. He remained actively involved in politics for ten consecutive years.
In 2018, in the state assembly elections, his nephew Atul Bhansali was made the BJP candidate in his place.

Member of ICAI Jodhpur Chapter
Professionally, Kailash Bhansali was an active member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) Jodhpur Chapter. He served as the president of the Jodhpur Chapter for several years. He also worked in senior positions in the Marwar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tax Bar Association, Jodhpur, and held various positions in Rajasthan Kar Sahayak Sangh, Rajasthan Writers Association, and the FICCI Arbitration Committee. He was also a nominated member of the Unit Trust of India in various companies. He practised law in Jodhpur city.
During a natural disaster in Rajasthan, for his contribution, President Shankar Dayal Sharma honoured Kailash Bhansali with the National Award in 1992.
