J&K Police Enhances Surveillance With AI Facial Recognition And GPS Tracker Anklets

In efforts to combat terrorist and narco-terrorist operations in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the police are leveraging advanced technology. They have implemented GPS tracker anklets and a facial recognition system powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) to surveil the movements of identified criminals and terrorists within the region.

In a notable development, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has deployed an Artificial Intelligence-powered facial recognition system at Navyug Checking Plaza, Banihal. Additionally, they have initiated the use of GPS tracker anklets to monitor individuals accused in NDPS cases in Kupwara, located in North Kashmir. This marks the first instance of employing such tracker anklets in the Kashmir Region, whereas previously, only one accused in Jammu was subjected to GPS tracker anklet monitoring.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police, with the goal of bolstering surveillance capabilities and efficiently tackling drug-related crimes in bordering districts of North Kashmir, has installed GPS tracker anklets on two individuals who were granted bail, as per their bail conditions.

”Under the directive of the Kupwara Court, GPS tracker anklets have been deployed on two bailed-out accused, Abdul Majid Bhat and Aabid Ali Bhat, as part of their bail conditions. It’s a high-tech surveillance system where we deploy these anklets and we keep monitoring them. If we doubt their movement, we make sure to tackle it. A police team ensured the successful implementation of this electronic surveillance technology, demonstrating the Police commitment to utilizing advanced tools in the fight against drug trafficking and related crimes. This proactive approach not only strengthens monitoring capabilities but also contributes to creating a safer environment for all residents of Kupwara, ” said G M Bhat, Addl SP Kupwara.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police announced via Twitter the activation of an advanced AI-powered facial recognition system at the Navyuga tunnel along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. This deployment signifies a substantial advancement in enhancing security measures along one of the most crucial National Highways in the Union Territory. The technology is specifically engineered to detect and monitor individuals engaged in criminal activities, such as terrorists, over-ground workers (OGWs), absconders, individuals with criminal records, thieves, and drug traffickers.
”In a significant stride towards bolstering security measures, Ramban Police operationalises Al-Based Facial Recognition (FR) System at Navyuga Checking Plaza, Banihal, ” said district Police Ramban on social media.
The implementation of the advanced AI-based facial recognition system at the checkpoint in Banihal’s Navyuga tunnel represents a notable advancement in smart policing initiatives.
