J&K Election Office Suspends 23 Officials for Violating MCC Guidelines, Rs 130 Cr Seized

The Jammu and Kashmir Election Office has suspended 23 government officials and disengaged six contractual or ad-hoc employees for participating in election campaigns and political activities, violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). In addition, 20 employees have been transferred to other tehsils or districts following complaints of partisan behaviour.

In a statement, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) P K Pole provided details of the action, revealing that enforcement agencies have seized Rs 130 crore during the ongoing 2024 Assembly elections. The Police Department made the highest seizure of Rs 107.50 crore, followed by CGST at Rs 9.88 crore, SGST/CT at Rs 8.03 crore, NCB with Rs 2.06 crore, the Income Tax Department with Rs 87 lakh, and the State Excise Department with Rs 50 lakh.

CEO Pole also stated that 7,088 permissions have been granted to various political parties and candidates for rallies, processions, door-to-door canvassing, and other election-related activities. Of the 1,263 MCC violations reported, 600 cases have been resolved, while 364 remain under investigation.

Additionally, 32 FIRs have been registered against individuals found carrying illegal drugs, cash, and liquor during the election period. The CEO emphasised that strict action will continue to ensure a fair and peaceful election process.
