Two children were killed after a mud house collapsed due to a landslide caused by heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur village. District administration officials said on Saturday that the incident took place in Samole village of Muttal area of Udhampur.
Meanwhile, officials said rescue workers identified the bodies of the minors as Arif (3 years) and Gani (2 months).
The gruesome incident took place when the family was having food in the outer room of their house and both the children were sleeping inside. In the sudden collapse, the rest of the family members escaped but both the children were buried under the rubble.
Moreover, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief and said, “Extremely pained by the loss of lives due to collapse in Muttal, Udhampur. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family in this hour of grief. Directed district administration to provide necessary assistance to the affected family.”
However, the authorities later found the bodies under the collapsed site. Police and Revenue Department officials reached the spot and started rescue work.
