JJP in tight spot as BJP ends alliance

The saffron ruling Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) have parted ways after a period of around period of four and half years.
The BJP has 41 MLAs apart from the support of six independents and MLA Gopal Kanda, taking its number to 48, which is above the majority mark of 46 seats.
JJP chief Chautala met BJP president JP Nadda on Monday seeking two Lok Sabha seats — Hisar and Bhiwani-Mahendragarh — for the upcoming elections. Since the consensus could not be reached between both ruling parties, then it was decided to bring the alliance to an end.

However, the BJP was not interested in giving any Lok Sabha seats as it felt it was in a strong position in both seats. Chautala had won from Hisar Lok Sabha seat in 2014 and is presently the MLA from Uchana Kalan which falls under the Hisar Lok Sabha seat.
Dushyant’s father and JJP supremo, Ajay Chautala, was MP from Bhiwani in 1999. JJP claims it has a strong base in both of these seats.
Ending the alliance to an end is being seen as a big blow for JJP which was advocating continuous alliance. Ignoring all speculations about continuation of the alliance, BJP broke its ties with JJP. The main reason behind the breakdown was the lack of balance in seat distribution.

Only 4 out of 10 JJP MLAs were present in the meeting including former Deputy CM Deputy Dushyant Chautala, Naina Chautala, Anup Dhanak and Amarjeet Dhada while four of the party MLAs Devendra Babli, Ishwar Singh, Ramniwas Surjakheda, Ramkaran Kala and Jogi Ram Sihag were present in Chandigarh and participated in the swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet.
One of the JJP stalwarts said that it will contest elections on all 10 Lok Sabha seats and 90 assembly seats on its own in Haryana.
