Is Your Phone On The Block List Of WhatsApp This Year? Check If It Will Stop Working

WhatsApp, one of the world’s most popular messaging apps owned by Meta, has announced revised device requirements that will affect users with older smartphones. With over 2 billion users worldwide, the app has updated its policies to discontinue support for 35 smartphones, both Android and iPhones, by the end of this year.

According to a report by CanalTech, devices from major brands like Samsung, Apple, Sony, Huawei, Motorola, Lenovo, and LG are among those no longer receiving WhatsApp updates. Some notable models include Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, iPhone 6, Huawei Ascend P6 S, and Sony Xperia Z1.

WhatsApp’s decision stems from its recommendation to use the app on devices running Android 5.0 or later, or iPhones with iOS 12 or later. Older devices may compromise user experience, security, and access to new features, posing potential vulnerabilities. Users are advised to upgrade to compatible smartphones to continue using WhatsApp safely and effectively.

This move underscores WhatsApp’s commitment to maintaining app functionality and security standards, ensuring a seamless user experience while adapting to technological advancements. For those affected, upgrading their devices remains crucial to maintaining connectivity through the widely used messaging platform.
