A 55-year-old Iranian man wanted in connection with charges of chain snatching and cheating was apprehended by Mumbai Police on Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Haidar Tehjib Sayyed, a resident of Aambivali, Kalyan, was apprehended.
A group of Dahisar police officers detained him, and they also found a 5-gram gold ring in his possession, according to officials on Thursday.
According to the Mumbai Police, the accused was a co-conspirator with another Iranian immigrant named Kabuli Jafri, who was apprehended in September of this year while acting as a Mumbai crime branch officer in connection with a number of chain theft and fraud crimes.
According to officials, the accused, Haidar Tehjib Sayyed, was also wanted and was the subject of accusations of fraud and other offenses. He would also pretend to be a police officer and take people’s possessions.
Dahisar police detained him after receiving a tip from reliable sources. They stated that further inquiry into the situation is underway.
The cops are currently bringing the defendant into court for remand.
