Indian Foreign Secretary misri visits Nepal to boost bilateral cooperation

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal, on Sunday for a two-day official visit, aiming to advance mutually beneficial cooperation. His visit comes at the invitation of his Nepali counterpart, Sewa Lamsal.

Upon his arrival, Misri was welcomed by Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal at the VIP Lounge of Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. According to a release from the Nepali Foreign Ministry, the two foreign secretaries will discuss various matters to further strengthen Nepal-India relations and promote mutually beneficial cooperation.

The Indian Embassy in Nepal announced Misri’s arrival on X, stating: “Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrives in Kathmandu for an official visit from 11-12 August 2024. Warm reception by Foreign Secretary Ms. Sewa Lamsal.”

The embassy also emphasized that Misri’s visit underscores India’s commitment to its Neighbourhood First policy, continuing the tradition of regular high-level bilateral exchanges.

During his visit, Foreign Secretary Misri is expected to meet with high-level dignitaries in Nepal. The Nepali Foreign Ministry noted that this visit is part of the ongoing exchange of visits between the two friendly neighbors.

A source from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu confirmed that no agreements or decisions are expected during the visit. The source described it as an introductory visit and a courtesy call from the Indian Foreign Secretary. Misri is scheduled to depart Kathmandu on August 12.
