Indian Army honours sacrifice on 76th ‘Naushera Day’

On Tuesday, the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps commemorated the 76th ‘Naushera Day,’ paying tribute to the supreme sacrifice of Nk Jadunath Singh, PVC, in the Battle of Naushera during the 1947-48 Indo-Pak War. This battle, fought in the Naushera Sector of Rajouri District in Jammu & Kashmir, stands out as one of the fiercest engagements of the conflict.

The Battle of Naushera holds a unique significance as local residents fought alongside the Army, displaying unwavering courage and selflessness to defend their Motherland, often disregarding their own safety and property. In homage to their invaluable contribution, the event was celebrated in the presence of residents, ex-servicemen (ESM), and civil administration authorities.

Lt Gen Navin Sachdeva, AVSM, SM, GOC 16 Corps, along with Maj Gen Gaurav Rishi, SC, SM, GOC 25 Inf Div, and other civil and military officials, laid wreaths at the Veer Bhoomi, honoring the memory of Nk Jadunath Singh, PVC. Following the solemn ceremony, schools of Naushera showcased their cultural talents in a festivity.

The GOC White Knight Corps recognized the enthusiasm and active involvement of school children and teachers, awarding them for their remarkable participation. Interacting with the people of Naushera and ESMs, the GOC expressed gratitude to the gallant population for their unwavering support during the Battle of Naushera. He also acknowledged the significant role played by the Gurjar Bakarwal community in maintaining peace in the region, assuring them of the Indian Army’s continued support.

Leading up to the ‘Naushera Day Celebrations,’ the Indian Army organized various events, including a Multi-Specialty Medical Camp that provided treatment to 535 locals, an Artificial Limbs Camp that distributed 54 artificial limbs along with 47 wheelchairs and crutches. Additionally, activities such as a Cross-Country Run for the youth, a Cricket Tournament, and Professional and Vocational Courses were conducted as part of the commemorative efforts.
