India’gets its new Defence Secretary in Giridhar Aramane

India got its new Defence Secretary in Giridhar Aramane as he assumed the office on Tuesday. He is a 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service Officer of the Andhra Pradesh Cadre

Before assuming the ofice, he laid a garland at National War Memorial and paid his tribute to the martyred heroes. He saluted the brave souls who made the biggest sacrifice and lost their lives while protecting the motherland.

While he was at the National War Memorial, he said “We draw inspiration from these bravehearts and promise to work towards fulfilling their dream of making India a safe and prosperous country.”

The new secretary has 32 years of experience in IAS. He has taken care of a number of important portfolios in both the Central government and the Andhra Padesh government.

Before his new designation , Giridhar was Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Prior to that, he was an additional secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat. In addition to overseeing the Cabinet Secretariat, he was Executive Director in charge of inspections at the Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority and managed the Exploration Division in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.

He worked for the Andhra Pradesh government as the Secretary, Managing Director, and Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department (the Finance Department). Additionally, he served as the Collector and DM for the districts of Khammam and Chittoor.

He holds a Btech degree in Civil engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad and Mtech from IIT Madras. He has done his MA in Economics from Kakatiya University, Warangal.
