INDIA RECORDS 18K NEW COVID CASES, 73 OF UK STRAIN SO FAR

India added 18,088 coronavirus cases to its total tally on Wednesday, placing the overall number at 1.03 crore cases. The number of fresh infections reported on Wednesday was 10 percent higher than on Tuesday. In this period, India also reported 264 deaths linked to the virus, taking the total number of fatalities to 1,50,114.

Meanwhile, the total number of people in the country who have tested positive for the new UK strain of the novel coronavirus now stands at 73.

Delhi recorded 654 fresh Covid-19 cases and 16 more fatalities on Wednesday, even as the positivity rate stood at 0.88 percent. The infection tally in the city rose to 6.28 lakhs and the death toll mounted to 10,625. The national capital had recorded 442 cases on Tuesday with a positivity rate of 0.55 percent. 

Maharashtra›s Covid-19 tally increased to 19.50 lakhs after it recorded 3,160 fresh cases of the viral infection on Tuesday. The state now has 49,067 active cases, while the tally in Mumbai is 7,000.

Andhra Pradesh reported 289 new cases of Covid-19, 428 recoveries and three deaths in the past 24 hours. The overall infection positivity rate slid to 7.30 percent after 1.21 crore sample tests for the virus so far turned out a total of 8,83,876 confirmed cases. The total recoveries climbed to 8,73,855 and deaths to 7,125, leaving 2,896 active cases in the state.

Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday recorded 126 new coronavirus cases that raised the tally to 1,22,049, while three more fatalities pushed the death count to 1,900. Of the fresh cases, 73 were reported from the Jammu division and 53 from the Kashmir division of the union territory.

Gujarat on Wednesday reported 665 fresh coronavirus positive cases, taking the tally to 2,49,246. With four more fatalities, the overall death count rose to 4,329. A total of 897 patients were also discharged during the day, taking the total number of recoveries in Gujarat to 2,36,323. With this, the Covid-19 case recovery rate in the state has improved to 94.82 percent.

Telangana registered 417 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the total infection count past 2.88 lakhs, while two more fatalities pushed the toll to 1,556. The total number of cases stood at 2,88,410 while recoveries were at 2,81,872.

Arunachal Pradesh recorded three new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally in the state to 16,744 on Wednesday. Eleven more people were cured of the disease on Tuesday, taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 16,609. The recovery rate in the state is currently 99.19 percent.
