In a criminal case, a Hoshiarpur court summons a Punjab Police officer and a retired tehsildar

Nearly three years after a hotel brawl, a Hoshiarpur court summoned a Punjab Police officer and a retired revenue officer and ordered them to stand trial for criminal offences in a case filed by one of the hotel owners’ foster sons.

Nawab Hussain, the complainant, claimed that in January 2019, police officer Naresh Dogra, now DCP of Jalandhar, retired tehsildar Manjit Singh, and their associates assaulted his foster father, Vishav Nath Bunty, his companion Ajay Rana, and others in an attempt to illegally take possession of the hotel. He complained that, despite Rana’s bullet wound, the police not only registered a case against the accused under milder sections of the Indian Penal Code but also implicated them in a false case.

On the basis of the evidence presented by the complainant, the court of additional chief judicial magistrate Rupinder Singh summoned Dogra, Manjit Singh, and others and ordered them to stand trial under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 506 (criminal intimidation), 341 (wrongful restraint), 447 (criminal trespass), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 148 (rioting), and 149 (rioting) (unlawful assembly).

The next hearing date has been set for November 15.

According to the reports, Dogra stated that the charges against him were false and that he would respond in court.
