Shah Mehmood Qureshi, a former foreign minister of Pakistan and close ally to deposed prime minister Imran Khan, was detained by police on Thursday amid escalating political unrest that has claimed the lives of at least eight people and prompted the army’s deployment in the nation’s capital and three provinces.
In a video posted on Twitter by Qureshi’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, he can be seen being taken away by men in plain clothes while waving at PTI supporters.
According to the PTI, Qureshi, 66, was detained and taken to a undisclosed location by the Islamabad police early on Thursday.
