Imran Khan’s bail extended in case against violence during protests

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s bail has extended till November 21 by anti-terrorism court. In a case against violence during protests, the bail has been extended till November 21.

The PTI leader’s request for a medical excuse from appearing in court was also granted by the court. The PTI leaders, including party chairman Imran Khan, secretary-general Asad Umar, and 100 other party activists, were accused of using violence during the protests, and a terror case was filed against them. The court also approved Raja Khurram Nawaz’s bail, preventing the police from detaining him until November 14. The case that the police had registered at Sagjani police station now included ten offences, including a violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

After the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declared Imran Khan ineligible for office in its ruling in the Toshakhana case in October, protests broke out all throughout the country. He is no longer a National Assembly member. Imran Khan produced a fake affidavit, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan, and he was discovered to have engaged in corrupt behaviour.

The five-member bench of the ECP reached an agreement on the matter at once. Following the conclusion of the arguments from both sides on September 19, the ECP reserved its ruling in the Toshakhana case.

After the decision was announced, many PTI employees chanted anti-government chants in front of the ECP building. The Chungi No. 26 and Athal Chowk in the Bhara Kahu area were closed for traffic owing to protests and security concerns, thus the Islamabad traffic police urged commuters to take Peshawar Road or Lehtrar Road instead.

In Peshawar, protesters barricaded a street close to the Pir Zakordi bridge and Stadium Chowk. Outside the Sindh office of the Election Commission of Pakistan, protesters staged a sit-in.
