IMD issues orange alert for several districts of Uttarakhand

Heavy rains have been predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for a number of districts in Uttarakhand, including the state’s capital Dehradun. For the districts of Dehradun, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, and Bageshwar, the IMD has issued an orange alert; for the districts of Haridwar, Tehri, Chamoli, Udham Singh Nagar, and Pithoragarh, a yellow alert has been issued.

Heavy rains in Uttarakhand had triggered landslides and flash floods in several places, officials said. An official estimate earlier put the toll from rain-related incidents in the state at 52 while another 37 people were injured.
