Hooda Blames Government for 6 Deaths in Poisonous Liquor

Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda has said that the black trade of intoxicants is spreading in Haryana, under the patronage of the BJP-JJP government. He said poisonous liquor, Chitta and synthetic drugs are continuously killing the people of the state.
“The death of 6 people due to poisonous liquor in Yamunanagar is the result of the failure of the government because many such cases have come to light earlier. In November 2020, more than 30 people died due to poisonous liquor, within a span of 4 days in Panipat and Sonipat alone. There were 3 deaths in Faridabad 3 years ago. In November 2022, 4 people from Sonipat lost their lives due to poisonous liquor. Despite such large-scale deaths, the government has not taken any action and to date, has not managed to lay its hands on the big players in this trade. In the name of investigation, SIT is formed by the government but the result of these investigations is never revealed,” he stated.
Hooda said during the Congress tenure, Haryana was a state known for its milk products and its sportspersons who brought glory to the country, but as soon as BJP came to power, it started giving protection to drug dealers. “Due to this, the trade of Chitta, synthetic drugs and poisonous liquor gradually reached small villages and streets. When JJP came to power along with BJP, the drug trade jumped manifold. It seems as if the state government is moving forward with a mission to trap the youth in the quagmire of drugs,” he noted with concern. NCRB data itself shows that drug addiction has increased to such an extent in Haryana that the state has overtaken Punjab in terms of deaths due to overdose. According to the figures released last year, 43 people died due to drug overdose in Sirsa district alone, within a year. The former Chief Minister pointed out that Haryana had left Punjab and Himachal behind in cases of suicide due to intoxication. “Within a year, 89 people have committed suicide due to intoxication. The news of the death of youth while injecting drugs has become common. The government is so fond of drug dealers, that when an elderly woman in Sirsa complained about her son’s death due to drugs, the government openly insulted the woman,” he said. Hooda said the present government is ruining both the present and future of the state by giving security cover to drug dealers. “When the Congress government is formed in the state, this black empire of drugs will be curbed, and those who are taking people’s lives will be punished for their crimes,” he promised.
