Former Chief Minister of Haryana and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, State Congress president Udaibhan and MP Deepender Hooda paid tribute to 750 farmers and farm workers and paid their respects by observing 2 minutes of silence. Hooda said the sacrifice of the farmers would not go in vain.
Hooda, who was elated after seeing the entire HUDA ground packed in Sirsa, said that the mammoth size of the rally indicates that the martyrdom of the farmers and farm workers, who sacrificed their lives in the farmers’ movement, will not go in vain. He said that the BJP-JJP government is completely responsible for the martyrdom of 750 farmers and farm workers in the farmers’ movement.
“This government lathicharged the farmers, showered them with cold water in winter and put nails on the roads, but they do not know that no one can suppress the voice of the farmer. His voice has power. This government had brought such laws which would have ruined the farmers, but the farmers saved the grains from going into the coffers of the rich. What happened to agreement that was made between the farmers and the government, in which it was said that MSP would be guaranteed,” he questioned.
On the demand of the farmers, the Leader of Opposition announced that just one government job was given to the families of the martyred farmers during the farm agitation, as was done during the Kandela incident, and added that farmers and farm workers would be given the martyr status. “When the Congress government is formed in the state, a National Farmers Movement Memorial will be built in Haryana in the memory of 750 farmers and farm workers,” he said and added that the Congress Party has resolved to guarantee farmers freedom from debt and MSP.
There was no space left to even set foot in the HUDA ground during the Kisaan-Majdoor Jan Akrosh Rally in Sirsa today as all the roads leading to the venue remained blocked. The whole of Sirsa was painted in Congress colours and more people were present outside on the streets, than were present in the HUDA ground.
People had started reaching the meeting place since morning, dancing to the beat of drums. Photos of martyred farmers and farm workers were displayed on the stage at the rally venue. During this, Bhupinder Singh Hooda was honored by presenting him a plough.
