Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday condoled the loss of lives in the landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of those who were killed and Rs 50,000 for those injured in the tragedy.
“PM @narendramodi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to a landslide in Himachal Pradesh. Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured,” tweeted Prime Minister’s office.
Himachal Pradesh Government informed in the state assembly that 14 people have been died 13 have been rescued and 16 are still missing at Negalsari in Kinnuar district as the rescue operation continues.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur after visiting the accident site, in his statement in the house stated that this is the second fatal mishap in last few weeks in the Kinnuar district. Earlier in July, nine people were killed after a tourist vehicle was hit by landslide at Batseri in Kinnaur.
Chief Minister said that as per the information there were as many as 16 people untraceable so far.
That was very risky affair to carry out the rescue operation in such a different terrain, amid the shooting stones, debris falling form the mountains, but despite of all odds the NDRF, ITBP, CISF and local police are engaged in a commendable and challenging task, he added.
While addressing the house, Cm has announced 5 lack ex- gratis / compensation to the next kin of the families.
CM also said that 11 persons who are out of danger were hospitalized at Bhavnagar Hospital, and were later discharged, while the two who are reported critical has been shifted to better treatment.
The Chief Minister said that two vehicles could not be traced so far and, it is being feared that some of them have been washed away in Satluj River.
