Heavy rainfall for next three days in UP, Uttarakhand among other states: IMD

The Indian Meteorological Department predicts heavy downpours for Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand over the next three days, with a Friday high in severity (IMD). The weather forecasting organisation also anticipated significant rainfall in the following two to three days over Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. Over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam today, there is also a very good chance of isolated extremely heavy rainfall.

According to IMD, the accompanying cyclonic circulation currently sits over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and the surrounding areas in lower tropospheric levels, while the low pressure area over westcentral Bay of Bengal and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh has become less noticeable. In lower tropospheric levels, the trough extends from coastal Andhra Pradesh to Uttarakhand, passing through Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, and central Uttar Pradesh.

Under the impact of these systems, Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh are anticipated to have scattered heavy spells from October 6 to 8 along with widespread light to moderate rainfall. Similar rainfall activity is anticipated in eastern Uttar Pradesh through October 9. On Friday and Saturday, isolated areas of Uttarakhand and northwest Uttar Pradesh are likely to experience extremely severe rains.

Today, it is quite possible that Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and East Madhya Pradesh will get widespread mild to moderate rainfall with a few isolated heavy rains. It is also anticipated that similar rainfall will occur in Odisha tomorrow, in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on October 8-9, in East Madhya Pradesh until October 7, and in West Madhya Pradesh and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands from October 6-8.

According to an IMD press release, there will likely be “fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya on 05th, 08th & 09th and over Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram & Tripura on 08th & 09th October, 2022.”
