Haryana’s Dengue Cases Surge: Health Department on Alert

Haryana continues to witness an acute spike in the fresh cases of mosquito-borne dengue after the month of July. The statistics made available by the health department revealed that as many only 72 cases were reported in Haryana till the second week of July but In the last one and a half months, the situation has become worse that more than 80 cases have been reported every day in government and private hospitals in the state adding to the woes of the health department. Further, the data revealed that as many as 1453 cases were reported in Haryana till August 31 this year. A total of 5189 cases have been reported so far. In this context, 3730 new cases have been reported during this period. An increase in cases is also possible due to the favourable conditions of the disease and the fresh cases of the disease have reached worrying levels in many districts of the state. Notably, patients from adjoining states visit the hospitals in Haryana for treatment in view of this, a cross-border meeting was held with the health officials of the State of Himachal Pradesh on 6 June 2023 to pay special attention to the highly vulnerable areas of Kalka and Parwanoo. Apart from this, another cross-border meeting with the State of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh was held on 24 April 2023 under the chairmanship of Senior Regional Director, RoHFW, Government of India, Chandigarh.
The statistical comparison depicts that there is a decrease in cases compared to last year, but at present the circumstances are favourable for the spread of the disease, so an increase in cases is possible. In the year 2015, a total of 9921 dengue cases were reported in the state. Whereas 2494, 4550, 1936, 1207, 1377, 11835 and 8996 cases were confirmed in the year 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 respectively. So far 4 people have lost their lives due to the disease in Haryana. Although it is believed that more people have died due to the disease, some deaths have been kept in the category of suspicious deaths by the department. As many as 48 patients have lost their lives due to the disease from the year 2015 to 31 September 2023
It is pertinent to mention that Charkhi Dadri district emerges on the top with a maximum 571 patients followed by 424, 397, 385, 363 and 363
patients reported in Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Hisar and Rewari. The statistics revealed that about 3 thousand new dengue cases were reported in Haryana in the month of September alone. As many as 79 and 379 cases of malaria and chikungunya have been reported so far.
