The Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) has issued a summons to Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, following his controversial statement against actor-turned-politician and BJP stalwart Hema Malini. Surjewala is required to appear before the commission on April 18 to provide an explanation.
The HSCW has taken suo motu cognizance under the powers conferred by the Haryana State Women’s Commission Act, 2012, concerning reports from various news channels and social media platforms. These reports alleged that Surjewala made derogatory remarks against Hema Malini, which were deemed insulting to the dignity of women and indecent. The commission has mandated his presence for clarification.
Renu Bala, Chairperson of the Commission, confirmed that Surjewala has been summoned to appear before the HSCW on April 18 to offer his clarification. This marks the second summons issued to him, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
Furthermore, the Commission has expanded its inquiry to include the state Congress president, investigating what measures have been taken regarding Surjewala’s actions. Surjewala’s contentious statement against the BJP heavyweight has stirred controversy, putting the main opposition Congress party on the defensive ahead of the polls.
