Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta on Friday inaugurated five electric AC buses provided by JBM Auto for the Haryana City Bus Service at Bus Stand Sector-5 Panchkula. This initiative aims to enhance transportation facilities for citizens at reasonable rates within the city while promoting environmental protection. Passengers will enjoy free travel on these buses for the first seven days.
The Assembly Speaker, along with other dignitaries, traveled from Bus Stand Sector-5 to Shiv Mandir Sector-9 in the electric bus. During the journey, they also visited Shiv Mandir Sector-9 to seek blessings of Lord Shiva.
In a separate event earlier on Friday, Chief Minister Manohar Lal launched the city bus service in Panchkula and Karnal through a video conference from Chandigarh. The Chief Minister highlighted that Haryana’s city bus service is a distinctive initiative in the country, already operational in major cities like Faridabad, Gurugram, Manesar, Panipat, and Jagadhri.
Expansion plans include launching the service in Rohtak, Hisar, Ambala, Sonipat, and Rewari, with 375 electric buses provided by JBM Auto. The introduction of this service enables citizens to travel in affordable AC buses, contributing to accessible and comfortable public transportation.
Gupta explained that the routes for these buses would be determined based on the requirements and preferences of the residents. Currently, five electric buses have been introduced in Panchkula, and their quantity will be increased to 50 in response to the growing demand. These electric buses have a seating capacity of 45 people and standing room for 18 to 20 individuals.
