Haryana Police takes bold step to combat drugs through sports

In a groundbreaking move, the Haryana Police have launched the “Sports for Youth” initiative, a statewide programme harnessing the power of sports to steer young people away from drugs and towards physical fitness.

Reviewing Progress
This information was provided during a meeting chaired by the Director General of Police, Shatrujeet Kapur. While assessing the advancement of de-addiction campaigns across districts, special attention was given to the “Sports for Youth” initiative. Director General Kapur specifically reviewed the programme’s implementation in Hisar, Bhiwani, Dadri, Sirsa, Dabwali, Narnaul, Rewari, Nuh, Palwal, Jhajjar, Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, and Kurukshetra.

Fitness Initiative
During a recent meeting, Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur declared youth as the “future of the nation,” emphasizing the crucial role of channeling their energy positively. He introduced the “Sports for Youth” initiative, a statewide program utilizing sports to guide young individuals away from drugs and towards physical fitness.

Sports as Antidote
The programme actively engages village youth in sports, creating not only healthy habits but also awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. Retired SPOs with sports backgrounds below 50, veterans of the Army or Paramilitary forces, are deployed in villages to motivate participation and coach young talent.

Experienced Mentorship:
Retired SPOs under 50, with athletic backgrounds in the Army or paramilitary forces, are stationed in villages. These veterans not only coach young talent but also serve as positive role models, guiding them away from harmful influences. In terms of revitalized infrastructure, unused sports complexes are undergoing cleaning and refurbishment, transforming into vibrant hubs for physical activity.

Golden Hour App:
Critical data from hospitals, ambulances, and other emergency services is uploaded onto a mobile app, enabling faster response times in case of accidents. This ensures access to quality medical care within the crucial “golden hour,” significantly boosting the chances of saving lives.

Black Spot Elimination:
Proactive road safety audits identify and address dangerous stretches of road known as “black spots.” By upgrading infrastructure and implementing safety measures, these initiatives aim to prevent accidents and save lives.

Speed Limit Enforcement:
Stricter speed limit regulations are being implemented across districts, ensuring responsible driving and reducing the risk of high-speed collisions.
Combating Misuse of Sirens and Red Lights: Crackdowns are underway against the unauthorized use of sirens and red lights by vehicles. This promotes respect for emergency signals and prioritizes safe driving across the state.
In the meeting, Gurugram Police Commissioner Vikas Arora stated that, to prevent incidents of vehicle theft, they have urged vehicle manufacturing companies to enhance the locking system of motorcycles.
