Guru Pranam Utsav showcased rich heritage of Indian classical music and dance

Vaishali Kala Kendra recently celebrated festival, Guru Pranam Utsav, showcasing the rich heritage of Indian classical music and dance. This esteemed event celebrated an evening of mesmerizing performances by renowned artists and their disciples.

Guru Alaknanda Dasgupta was the Chief Guest of the event, and Guest of Honour Manavika Joshi and Dr Y Theba Devi whose illustrious presence graced the occasion with her wisdom and expertise in the realm of classical arts.

The audience witnessed the graceful Odissi performance by Urjjasee Basak, under the tutelage of Guru Aloka Kanungo from Calcutta.

They delighted in the captivating Odissi recital by the disciples of Guru Dr Jyoti Shrivastava, showcasing their dedication and skill.

The rhythmic elegance of Kathak was experienced through a mesmerizing performance by disciples of Guru Alaknanda Dasgupta, enchanting the audience with their impeccable artistry.

The event was inaugurated by Alaknanda Dasgupta, with Malavika Joshi and Dr Y Theba Devi as the Guest of Honour, who gave pushpanjali to the guruji.

The program began with three students performing Ganesh Stuti, Guru Stuti, and Shanti Path.

The Odissi performance by the dancers of Vaishali Kala Kendra, including the youngest one aged six, received immense appreciation from the audience. Everyone acclaimed the tiny tots as great dancers.

Next, a performance choreographed by Dr Jyoti Shrivastava, focusing on the importance of the Ganga in our lives, received applause. The senior dancers, Khyati, Sanvi, Pankhuri, and Kauri, who have been performing for more than 15 years, received a standing ovation.

Urjjasee Basak, under Guru Aloka Kanungo, delivered an impressive performance, with Urjjasee Basak herself traveling all the way from Kolkata.

The event concluded with a Kathak performance led by Alaknanda and her four disciples, captivating the audience.

Triveni was packed with people, with some even sitting on the stairs. The organizers were delighted with such a great success.
