National Science Day was joyously celebrated under the able leadership of Principal Promila Malik at Government College, Kalka, with the invaluable guidance of Professor Dr. Gulshan, Head of the Geography Department. To mark the occasion, a dedicated team of students from the Geography Department embarked on a visit to the Survey of India in Sector 32, Chandigarh.
During the visit, Dr. Vinay Rajput led the students through an enlightening exhibition showcasing various modern instruments used in surveying and mapping. Experts were on hand to provide detailed explanations of the equipment’s functions and their applications across diverse fields. The students were introduced to cutting-edge tools such as the GPS (Global Positioning System) and GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar), particularly utilized in pipeline and sewerage surveying.
The students exhibited keen interest in the array of modern surveying and mapping instruments. They were introduced to the ETS (Electronic Total Station), a device that facilitates precise measurement of horizontal and vertical angles with high accuracy standards. This equipment plays a crucial role in leveling work for engineering projects. Additionally, the students gained insights into the latest toposheet technology.
Accompanied by Manmohan from the Geography Department, the students’ visit to the Survey of India proved to be highly successful, providing them with valuable exposure to state-of-the-art surveying and mapping instruments.
