Google CEO Sundar Pichai Uses ‘3 Idiots’ Scene to Illustrate ‘Success’

In a recent interview with Varun Mayya, founder of Aeos company, Google CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted the importance of profound comprehension over rote learning, using a famous scene from the Bollywood movie “3 Idiots” as an illustration.

Discussing how applicants for top tech companies like Facebook (Meta), Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google (collectively known as FAANG) can move beyond the competitive exam mindset, Pichai stressed that “real success comes from understanding things in a deeper way.” He referenced a scene from “3 Idiots” where Aamir Khan’s character distinguishes between merely describing a motor and truly understanding its workings.

“There’s a scene where they ask Aamir Khan the definition of a motor. There’s one way to just describe what a motor is, and another way to actually understand what a motor is,” Pichai explained, urging aspirants to cultivate a deeper grasp of concepts rather than superficial knowledge.

Pichai also addressed the burgeoning field of artificial intelligence (AI), underscoring its significance and widespread availability, including in India. “The underlying API for AI is available everywhere, including India. So I see developers already using it,” he noted. He emphasized that India, with its vast user base, remains a crucial market for Google.

India’s prominence as a key market for Google was further highlighted, with Pichai acknowledging that “India is one of our top markets” and boasts “the largest user base.” This recognition underscores Google’s strategic focus on the Indian market and its potential for growth in AI and other technological advancements.
