GEHLOT REJECTS OPPOSITION’S ALLEGATION ABOUT ‘HIGH DEBTS’

Rajasthan Chief Minister on Friday tweeted his reaction on the Opposition’s allegation about the state’s high debts.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said that those who level allegations about the state’s high debts have, in fact, no understanding of the economy. “No state government can take loans violating the rules framed by the Central government,” he said. Gehlot said that the states get loans under Article 293 of the Constitution within the limits of the FRBM Act.

The CM on Friday tweeted his reaction on the Opposition’s allegation about the state’s high debts. In the message posted on Twitter, Gehlot said that the debt of the state under his government in 2013 was 23.98 per cent of the GSDP, which was around Rs 1,29,910 crore. This debt touched the mark of 35 percent of GSDP during the BJP regime in 2018, which was around Rs 3,11,371 crore. Gehlot said that the BJP government’s debt was more than double in its five years rule. The Government of India had a debt of Rs 57 lakh crore by March, 2014 which rose to Rs 136 lakh crore in 2022, which means the debt in the Modi government went up more than two times, the CM said, adding that the opposition should comment on it.

He further pointed out that there was a revenue surplus from 2010-11 to 2012-13. “During my government, the revenue surplus was Rs 3451 crore, which means there was no revenue deficit,” he said. When the BJP government was in power in 2018-19, there was a revenue deficit which rose to Rs 28900 crore. The state is still reeling under the bad effects resulting from the deficit, the CM remarked.

The Chief Minister shared the information that the revenue receipts are going up gradually even as the situation is getting back to normal after the Covid pandemic in Rajasthan. He said that investments in Rajasthan are going up and with that the economy is also expanding. With this in view, we will be able to implement the schemes and programmes announced in the budget, the CM added.
