G20 leaders converge in Delhi for historic summit

New Delhi is abuzz with preparations as it gears up to host leaders from the G20 major economies. The city has undertaken rigorous security and beautification measures including the deployment of drones and painting murals at underpasses, ensuring an atmosphere that is both secure and welcoming. India, holding the presidency of the group this year, has indeed pulled out all the stops, even introducing large-scale langur cutouts to deter monkeys.
With a backdrop of the deepening crisis in Ukraine creating a geopolitical rift, this summit presents an invaluable opportunity for dialogue and finding collective solutions to pressing global issues. Here’s where some of the major leaders will reside during their time in Delhi:

Joe Biden
US President Joe Biden will station himself at the ITC Maurya during his stay. Beyond the summit’s agenda, Biden has scheduled bilateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, eyeing discussions on clean energy transition and climate change.

Rishi Sunak
Marking his inaugural visit to India as the UK’s Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak has praised Modi’s leadership, terming India as the “right country at the right time.” Sunak will be residing at the Shangri La hotel, setting a positive tone ahead of the critical summit.

China Delegation
In a noteworthy deviation, the Chinese delegation will be led by Premier Li Qiang, thus marking President Xi Jinping’s absence, a first since the inception of the G20 leaders’ summit in 2008. This decision dampens prospects of a potential meeting with Biden. The delegation has chosen Delhi’s Taj Hotel for their stay.
Justin Trudeau
Following his engagement at the ASEAN summit in Indonesia, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will join the G20 Summit over the weekend. Trudeau has opted for The Lalit Hotel for his accommodation in Delhi.

Anthony Albanese
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will be visiting as a part of his three-nation tour, encompassing Indonesia and the Philippines. Albanese will be hosted by the Imperial Hotel during the global meet.
The summit promises to be a hotbed of discussions, with leaders strategizing solutions to the world’s most urgent problems. All eyes will be on Delhi as these influential figures converge in the coming days, fostering hopes of collaborative action towards a harmonised global front.
