Four Judges Transferred from Punjab and Haryana High Court

In a recent development, the Centre has announced the transfer of four judges from the Punjab and Haryana High Court to various other high courts, and the addition of two judges from different high courts.
Justice Raj Mohan Singh has been reassigned to the Madhya Pradesh High Court, while Justice Arvind Singh Sangwan is set to join the Allahabad High Court. Additionally, Justice Avneesh Jhingan and Justice Arun Monga are being transferred to the Rajasthan High Court.
This move alters the composition of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, reducing its number of judges to 54, compared to the sanctioned strength of 85.
The Union Minister of State for Law, Arjun Ram Meghwal, officially announced these transfers. He stated, “In exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution, and after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, I am pleased to transfer the following high court judges…”
The Supreme Court collegium had recommended these transfers on August 3. While the specific reasons for the transfers were not disclosed, the resolution cited the objective of “better administration of justice.” In addition to these departures, the Centre has also confirmed the transfers of Justice Sudhir Singh from the Patna High Court and Justice Lapita Banerji from the Calcutta High Court, both of whom will be joining the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
These changes in the composition of the Punjab and Haryana High Court reflect a significant adjustment, bringing the court closer to its sanctioned strength.
