The coronavirus outbreak has led to an indefinite halt in film and television shoots as well as post-production work. Mehboob Studio and Film City seem desolate and deserted. The two studios have witnessed several film and television shoots as well as commercial advertisements over the years. Both of them — and many others — have been shut for the past two months. Since Mumbai is among the pandemic hotspots, all activities related to the entertainment sector have been stopped. Says Digangana Suryavanshi, Bollywood and South Indian actress, “Yes, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu film industries, among others, are facing massive financial losses. Films which were on the floor have been stalled and it is a matter of huge concern.
I will definitely miss shooting as that is my happy place and I pray to be on set very soon.” The actress, however, adds that human lives are more important to save during Covid-19. “A human gone is gone forever! Money can be minted again!” Several Bollywood movies which were gearing up for a release during these months are facing indefinite delay in hitting the big screens. The shooting of upcoming movies has also come to a halt which has been a cause of distress for the producers and directors who have invested their time and money in it. Not only films but television shows, too, have come under the corona shadow. Television actor Sara Khan of Bidaai fame tells The Daily Guardian that everything has been “tremendously affected by coronavirus”. She is particularly concerned over the monetary losses that are going to occur due to the pandemic. “Financial losses seem inevitable. I am also unable to fulfil certain commitments. I do miss shooting, rehearsals and having fun on the sets. I hope that everything gets back on track soon,” she says.
