Farmers’ agitation 2.0: 12 police personnel, around 50 farmers injured in clash

A clash between the agitating farmers seeking the fulfilment of their demands and the police, led to a casualty at Khanauri border here on Wednesday, Jind while around 50 farmers are reported injured and out of the injured, as many as 12 have been admitted to Patiala hospital. It is informed that the condition oaf the two of the farmers is critical while 2 have been referred. While reacting to the issue, Haryana Police spokesperson said in the official information that the protesters surrounded the police from all sides at Data Singh-Khanauri border, by pouring chilli powder in the stubble, attacked the policemen using sticks and guns along with stone pelting, about 12 policemen were seriously injured. Further, Haryana police appealed to the agitating farmers to stay calm urging them not to come up with any provocative steps as the situation at Khanauri border remains tense.
It is noteworthy that out rightly rejecting the government’s proposal of procuring pulses, maize, and cotton at MSP by government agencies for five years , agitating peasants on Monday told the the government to continue their march to Delhi on February 21 after the farm leaders were stopped by security forces from entering the Haryana so that they can not reach Delhi border. The protesting farmers are presently staying at Khanauri border, Jind and Khanauri border, Ambala. While the police are firing tear gas shells to disperse the farmers, the farmers are also adamant about marching to Delhi at any cost. Tear gas shells are being fired by the police to drive away the farmers and plastic bullets have also been fired. Divulging more details regarding the issue, Jind Police SP Sumit Kumar said that during the farmers’ movement, with excessive use of smoke incurred from setting fire to paddy straw and pouring chilli powder, several people had attacked the police with spears and machete resulting in serious injuries to 12 police personne, out of which 2 have been referred to PGI.
