During a check on December 31st, the Excise Department team seized 84 bottles of liquor from a car. This action was taken under the direction of Assistant Commissioner of Excise, Indrajit Singh Nagpal, and led by Excise Officer West-B, Harjot Singh, along with Excise Police Harjinder Singh and local police. The department undertook this action to curb the wholesale sale of liquor by illicit vendors.
Officials informed that a Renault Duster bearing registration number PB 10 FD 8118 was stopped for inspection. Upon examining the vehicle, 60 bottles of Punjab Dollar (PML) and 24 bottles of Royal Stag (IMFL) for sale in Punjab only were seized by officials at the spot. It was reported that the car was being driven by Rupesh Sharma, a resident of Haibowal, Ludhiana. An FIR has been registered under Section 61-1-14, 78(2) of the Punjab Excise Act 1914 at the Haibowal police station. Departmental authorities mentioned that further investigation into the case will be conducted to ascertain who sold the liquor. Subsequent action will be taken based on the findings.
Record-breaking Licenses issued for New Year parties
In the context of the New Year celebrations, record-breaking licenses were issued this time compared to previous years, leading to increased revenue for the government and heightened awareness among the people. Many new and existing restaurants, bars, clubs, and party organizers acquired excise licenses this year.
Increased inspections of bars, restaurants, and clubs in Ludhiana by officials
Another reason for issuing more licenses this time is the recent heavy seizure of unaccounted liquor bottles from several bars, restaurants, and clubs in Ludhiana by excise officials. Actions were taken against ‘De Pablo’s Club’ and many other clubs and restaurants located on Firozpur Road. Departmental authorities mentioned that the seized liquor is under investigation, and penalties will be imposed on the respective clubs and restaurants. Additionally, a warning has been issued to ensure proper adherence to excise laws in the future.
