Ex-Congress leader Sandhu Singh on 2-day remand amid money laundering probe

Former Congress leader and ex-minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot appeared in court today. During today’s appearance, the court once again sent Dharamsot on a 2-day remand. He had been on a 3-day remand since his arrest. It is reported that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) presented several reasons to obtain remand for the accused Dharamsot. They stated that there is a need to investigate bank accounts, properties, and other matters, with ongoing scrutiny into many aspects. Meanwhile, Dharamsot refrained from making any statements to the media during this time.
Involved in a money laundering case related to crores from the Forest Department, Dharamsot was arrested by the ED on January 15. The ED had been investigating this case for quite some time before Dharamsot’s arrest. According to information, actions may be taken against Dharamsot’s close associates and contractors in the Forest Department, including Harmandir Singh in Khanna.

Dharamsot served as the Forest Minister during the Congress government in Punjab when Captain Amarinder Singh was the Chief Minister. Recently, the ED conducted raids at his residence in Amloh, during which raids were also conducted at the homes of some other officers and contractors associated with the Forest Department. Notably, the Punjab government is also conducting an inquiry into the matter, and the Vigilance Department of Punjab had filed a case related to irregularities in tree planting in the Forest Department, in which Dharamsot was arrested. He had been released on bail a short while ago.

Furthermore, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Punjab has also made changes to the pre-board exam schedule for Barnala district. The pre-board and term-2 exams, originally scheduled for January 19, 2024, have been rescheduled due to the holiday on the martyrdom day of Shaheed Sewa Singh Thikriwala.

Consequently, the pre-board/term-2 exams in Barnala district, initially planned for January 19, 2024, will now be conducted on January 29, 2024, in the afternoon.
