“Embracing the spirit of Swachhata hi Sewa; Chandigarh unveils 2nd waste to wonder park in city”

Taking another initiative towards ‘Swachhata’ under ‘Garbage Free City’ mission, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today dedicated a second ‘Waste to Wonder’ park to citizens of the city beautiful at sector 32, Chandigarh to commemorate Swachhta Pakhwada.
Anup Gupta, city Mayor formally inaugurated the ‘waste to wonder’ park in the presence of Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC, Anju Katyal, area councilor, other councils and local residents of the city.
The park, spread across 5 acres, is a unique addition to Chandigarh’s list of amazing attractions. This groundbreaking initiative emphasizes the vital importance of recycling and reuse in minimizing waste entering landfill sites, making Chandigarh a cleaner and greener city.
While briefing about the salient features of the park, the Mayor said that the Waste to wonder park acts as an extraordinary testament to the dedication to transforming waste into eco-spaces that promote cleanliness and sustainability. Visitors to the park will be astounded as waste undergoes a magical transformation, breathing new life into the environment. It serves as a powerful symbol of our commitment to Swachhata Hi Seva, an initiative that fosters cleanliness and instills environmental consciousness in citizens.
He said that among the park’s most remarkable features is a unique playing zone crafted entirely from recycled tires. This innovative approach not only showcases our ability to repurpose materials but also exemplifies the endless possibilities of creating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces with recycled resources. Beyond providing an engaging experience for children, the tire-based playing zone serves as a powerful reminder of the value of recycling in waste reduction, inspiring visitors of all ages.
He expressed his pride in this remarkable achievement, stating, “The Waste to Wonder park in Sector 32 is a tremendous testament to our commitment to sustainability and creativity. It showcases the remarkable potential of transforming waste into beautiful spaces that promote cleanliness and environmental consciousness. I am truly honored to be a part of this groundbreaking initiative, he added.
The Mayor further said that various type of waste i.e. used tyres, chains, bearings, iron sheets, pipes and other plastic materials have been used to construct Tunnel, Tyre Hut, Dragon tyres, See Saw Spring Rider of tyres, Hill of Tyres, Twist and Turns, Crawling obstacles and other play equipments. He said that the construction waste from C&D Waste Processing Plant has been used to make Snakes & Ladder game for children and the bricks made out of C&D waste have been used for construction of sitting benches, entry of the park and toe wall construction. He said that this park has been developed only at a cost of Rs. 7 lacs. The Mayor said that the MCC has constructed 1st Waste to Wonder Park in Sector 48, Chandigarh by using waste metals and C&D Waste material.
Municipal Commissioner Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS shared about the project, stating that the Waste to Wonder Park highlights the significance of recycling and reuse in minimizing waste. It not only demonstrates an innovative approach to repurposing materials but also serves as a compelling reminder of the value of recycling in reducing waste.
She said that MCC leading the way in promoting sustainable practices and encouraging residents to embrace a cleaner, greener future. By transforming waste into wonder, we set a commendable example for other communities to follow. She said that every small step towards sustainability can have a significant impact on the environment and the well-being of our citizens.
