Electoral dynamics shift as rebels contest in Jaipur

In the capital, on 4 out of 19 seats, rebels have posed a threat to the BJP-Congress. While three seats in Jaipur have triangular contests, one seat may see a quadrangular contest. These include the Shahpura, Jhotwara, Hawa Mahal, and Adarsh Nagar constituencies. In Shahpura, the BJP has fielded Upen Yadav, who has been vocal about unemployment, while Congress has once again nominated young leader Manish Yadav, who lost in the previous election. Meanwhile, Hari Prasad Baliwal, who sought a ticket from the BJP, has turned down the RLP and is expected to make the contest more interesting here. Looking at the previous elections, Alok Beniwal, an independent candidate, managed to outperform both BJP and Congress candidates in this seat.
In the Jhotwara constituency, BJP candidate Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore is facing rebel Ashu Singh Surpura. On the other hand, the Congress has nominated Abhishek Chaudhary, an NSUI state president. In a nomination rally on Monday, Surpura attacked the BJP by saying that he has entered the field with the blessings of the public and will fight the elections. He said he was in the field with the public’s ticket. Similarly, in Adarsh Nagar, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Umardaraz is contesting in the election arena against Congress candidate Rafiq Khan. Baliwal from Adarsh Nagar has been given a ticket by the BJP. Hawa Mahal may witness a quadrangular contest.
On the other hand, the Congress has nominated R.R. Tiwari, the Jaipur city district president, for the Hawa Mahal constituency by cutting the ticket of Minister Mahesh Joshi. While the BJP has played the card of Hindutva and fielded Bal Mukund Acharya.
