Is it possible for slow and steady to win the race? According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Dunki, superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s first film with director Rajkumar Hirani, made an estimated Rs 26 cr on Saturday, marking a much-needed increase on its third day of release. It was vital for the social comedy drama that Dunki’s Saturday collections saw a thirty percent increase from its Friday, or second day, figures. For the movie to keep a steady pace at the box office, it needed to at least match its opening day total of Rs 29 cr, if not surpass it.
The movie will reach the Rs 100 cr club India nett on Sunday after earning Rs 75.32 cr in three days. Dunki is probably going to be close to the Rs 150 cr mark globally. However, trade estimates indicate that the film is no longer expected to gross big sums of Rs 350 cr or more at the box office, given that daily collections are still below Rs 30 cr. Additionally, the figures are much lower than those from SRK’s two previous 2023 hits, Jawan and Pathaan. In the end, both of those movies brought in more than Rs 1000 crore globally.
