MUMBAI: The DRI’s Mumbai unit seized 7.4 kg of foreign-origin gold valued at Rs 4.51 crore at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, leading to the arrest of six individuals in a gold smuggling syndicate. The arrested included two couriers, a private airline security employee, and a father-son duo operating a gold melting facility in Kalbadevi, South Mumbai. The agency also confiscated 4.28 kg of gold worth Rs 3.32 lakh from the melting facility, suspected to be proceeds from smuggling. The syndicate allegedly smuggled gold dust-in-wax via carriers, earning commissions.
