DK Shivakumar ahead of meeting in Delhi :”Together we will safeguard interests of Karnataka”

The state’s MPs will gather today, along with a number of state ministers, to protect Karnataka’s interests, according to the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar, who made the announcement prior to the meeting in Delhi.

Siddaramaiah, the chief minister of Karnataka, arrived in Delhi late on Tuesday night amidst the ongoing Cauvery River water-sharing dispute. Prior to a meeting that is scheduled to take place today and will be attended by MPs and ministers from his state, Siddaramaiah arrived in the nation’s capital. This morning in Delhi, DK Shivakumar also led prayers at Karnataka Bhavan.

In an effort to resolve the impasse, a delegation of MPs and MLAs from Tamil Nadu met with Union Water Resources Minister Gajendra Shekhawat earlier in the day on Tuesday. The delegation was led by State Water Resources Minister Durai Murgan. Durai Murugan stated on Tuesday that “Karnataka dams have water, but the state is refusing to release it in accordance with the Cauvery Water Management Board’s directives.” DK Shivakumar, the deputy chief minister of Karnataka, met with Union Minister Prahlad Joshi last night in Delhi to discuss the Cauvery issue.

Speaking with Prahlad Joshi about the ongoing Cauvery water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, Minister TB Jayachandra, MP DK Suresh, and MP GC Chandrashekar met with the deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar. In addition to the Cauvery dispute, state projects that are pending before the central government and issues with drought relief will be covered. To rally support for Karnataka’s position on the sharing of Cauvery Water, the state ministers will now meet with other Union ministers who represent Karnataka, Lok Sabha members, and Rajya Sabha members of the state.
