Detained woman claims accused boasted about killing Divya at hotel

The special investigation team (SIT) looking into the murder of Divya Pahuja, formerly thought to be associated with gangster Sandeep Gadoli, detained a 20-year-old woman on Sunday. She was purportedly summoned by the main accused, Abhijeet Singh, to the hotel after he fatally shot the ex-model on January 2.

Police said Megha, a resident of Delhi’s Najafgarh, admitted that Abhijeet – the owner of Hotel City Point – called her and boasted of killing Divya. Megha, who works as a delivery agent in the city, also told investigators that she saw the accused dragging Divya’s body to the BMW car hours after the murder.

Abhijeet Singh (56) and two hotel staffers – Hemraj (28) and Omprakash (23) – were arrested a day after Divya was shot. Police had said Abhijeet killed Divya as she was threatening and extorting him for months.

Divya’s body is yet to be traced by the police. The BMW car in which her body was apparently taken away was found abandoned 280km away in Patiala. One of the associates, Balraj Gill, who was seen in CCTV footage with Abhijeet and Divya is believed to have driven off in the BMW. Gill and another accused Ravi Bandra are absconding.

Investigators said they tracked down Megha after her description was given in the FIR by Divya’s sister Naina. CCTV footage recovered from the hotel shows a woman with short hair, believed to be Megha, wearing a black-blue jumper, on the day of the crime.
“Megha revealed that Abhijeet called her as he wanted to boast in front of her that he shot

Divya,” a senior police officer told, adding that she also confirmed that she saw the accused carrying Divya’s body to the BMW car outside the hotel on January 2 night. Sources said Megha met Abhijeet through a common friend a few months ago for some work. They are close, though investigators are trying to find out if the two were in a relationship.

“We have questioned Megha. If we accumulate sufficient evidence suggesting her direct involvement, we will apprehend her in accordance with the law,” stated the senior police official. Divya, who was 19 years old at the time, was imprisoned in 2016 following Mumbai police’s assertion that she collaborated with a group of five Gurgaon police officers to disclose the whereabouts of gangster Sandeep Gadoli before he was killed in a staged encounter.
