A two-story building collapsed on Sunday night near Delhi’s Lahori Gate, killing three people, including a four-year-old girl, according to the Delhi police. Additionally, the police have reported a violation of sections 304A, 336, 337, and 338 for negligence and endangering life or personal safety.

In the operations that continued well into the night on Monday, two more victims were saved. Ten individuals had previously been saved and taken to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital. According to the police, the incident happened on Sunday at around 7:30 p.m.

According to the police, the building was in a dilapidated condition. “Many people got injured. Ten people have been admitted to LNJP hospital. A four-year-old girl has died. A rescue operation is underway. Five teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are present at the spot,” Shweta Chauhan, DCP, Central district, Delhi, had earlier told ANI.

The tragedy occurs during the weekend when the nation’s capital experiences a lot of rain. The city set a new record with 74 mm of rain falling between Saturday night and Sunday morning, which was the second-highest October rainfall total since 2007. In addition to Delhi, the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh has also experienced heavy rain. There have been a number of documented rain-related incidents.
