Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena has appointed Delhi Home Minister Kailash Gahlot to raise the national flag at the state Independence Day event, as per officials at Raj Niwas. The event is scheduled to be held at Chhatrasal Stadium. This choice, which excludes several other senior government figures, is likely to spark further tensions between the AAP government and the LG secretariat.
In a written correspondence to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, LG’s secretary Ashish Kundra stated, “Lieutenant Governor is pleased to nominate Minister (Home), GNCTD, Kailash Gahlot to unfurl the National Flag at the State level Independence Day celebrations at Chhatrasal Stadium. Necessary arrangements may be made accordingly.”
Earlier in the day, the Delhi government’s General Administration Department rejected Minister Gopal Rai’s directive for Education Minister Atishi to raise the national flag.
