Delhi HC to hear tomorrow NIA plea seeking production of Yasin Malik through video conferencing

On August 4, the Delhi High Court will consider the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) request for permission to solely produce JKLF leader Yasin Malik via video conference for security grounds.
The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Yasin Malik’s physical attendance in the Delhi High Court was previously ordered by the court, and the NIA is asking the court to modify that order.

In its most recent ruling, the Delhi High Court ordered Yasin Malik to appear in court on August 9, 2023, for the next hearing date on the NIA appeal for the death penalty or capital punishment for Yasin Malik in the terror funding case.
The case was scheduled for hearing on Thursday before the Division Bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Anish Dayal, but it was later postponed to August 4, 2023, after the relevant bench failed to show up.

The NIA in its application stated that Yasin Malik has been lodged in the Tihar Jail, New Delhi under the category of very high-risk prisoners and thus, the present application is in relation to a heavy security issue.
Therefore, it is imperative that Convict Yasin Malik is not physically produced before this Court in order to maintain public order and safety. He should be allowed to join the proceedings through Video Conferencing, the NIA said.
The Delhi High Court on May 29, 2023, issued notice to Yasin Malik on an NIA appeal seeking capital/death penalty for him (Yasin Malik) in a terror funding case. NIA argued that it is a “rarest of rare” case.

Yasin Malik was given life in prison by the Trial Court in a case involving funding for terrorism last year.
