Deputy Commissioner of Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, took a significant step towards promoting food safety and nutrition awareness by launching the FSSAI Ladakhi Transcripted books at the Grand Dragon Hotel, Leh, on March 12. Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, Leh, Thamchos Gurmeet, accompanied the DC during the launch ceremony.
During the event, Padma Angmo, Food Safety Officer, Leh, introduced the comprehensive FSSAI Ladakhi Transcripted books, available in Hindi, English, and the local Ladakhi language. Divided into three categories – the orange book, yellow book, and the right-hand book – these resources serve as essential guides, offering insights into ensuring food safety and combating issues like milk and oil adulteration.
In his address, DC Leh highlighted the pivotal role of nutrition in fostering a healthy society. He drew attention to the rising incidence of cancer cases and preterm births, emphasizing the urgent need to address these challenges through proactive measures. Moreover, he stressed the importance of cultivating a physically fit youth demographic, emphasizing that the well-being of the populace is integral to societal progress.
DC Leh also emphasized the significance of embracing fortified foods, advocating for the Eat Right campaign, and promoting organic produce. He underscored the importance of individuals making informed and healthy dietary choices, thereby contributing to their overall well-being.
The event witnessed the participation of officers and officials from various departments, reflecting the collective commitment towards promoting food safety and nutrition awareness in the region.
