Cyclone Michaung effect: Defence Minister to undertake aerial survey today; Chennai continues to reel under waterlogging

Heavy rainfall in the region after Cyclone Michaung made landfall two days ago caused severe waterlogging conditions in several areas of Chennai on Thursday. Following a period of intense rainfall, several areas of the city—including a gas station in the Pallikaranai neighborhood and Jerusalem College of Engineering—remained submerged. Due to the region’s intense rainfall, the waterfalls at the Kodaikanal Hills in the Dindigul district also grew and overflowed.

As weather condition improved, the Electric multiple unit (EMU) train service, after the normal pattern of services resumed, departed from Chennai Central (MMC) station for Tiruttani on Thursday morning.

Cyclone Michaung forced the southern state to suspend transportation services. Rajnath Singh, the Union Minister of Defence, is scheduled to visit Tamil Nadu on Thursday to evaluate the current flood situation following Cyclone “Michaung.” On Thursday, the Minister of Defense posted on X, saying, “I’m heading from New Delhi to Chennai to evaluate the flood situation that the ‘Michaung’ Cyclone in Tamil Nadu has caused.” will evaluate the situation with the State Government and carry out an aerial survey of the impacted areas.”

Singh will be accompanied by Thangam Thennarasu, the state Finance Minister and chief secretary, during his aerial survey of the flood-affected areas.
Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L Murugan, will also accompany the Defence Minister during his aerial survey.
