Crazy Rich Asians’ Wedding: Guests Gifted ₹66,000 & Chauffeured In Bentleys

Kevin Kwan’s bestselling book series “Crazy Rich Asians” and its film adaptation offered a peek into the opulent lifestyles of Asia’s elite. Recently, a viral video showcases a real-life extravagant wedding in China that embodies this opulence.

Dana Wang, a guest at the wedding, shared a video on social media highlighting the event’s grandeur. The couple generously flew in all overseas guests at their own expense, a departure from the norm where guests typically cover their travel costs.

Attendees stayed at a luxurious five-star hotel for five days and were chauffeured in Rolls Royces and Bentleys if they wished to explore the city.

The wedding ceremony itself was held at a lavish venue adorned with chandeliers and elaborate floral arrangements. Wang remarked, “The wedding decor was so pretty it made me feel like I’m in Europe.”

The most surprising gesture was the couple distributing ‘red envelopes’ to all their guests. Wang explained that, traditionally, guests give red envelopes with money to the couple at Chinese weddings. However, at this wedding, the couple handed each guest a red envelope containing $800 (approximately ₹66,700).

“There were leftover red pockets on each table so you can take extra if you wanted,” Wang mentioned in the comments. This was in addition to the luxurious gift packages each guest received.

“This is what a Crazy Rich Asian wedding is like in real life,” Wang stated at the beginning of her video.

The video, shared on X after originating on Instagram, has amassed 6.5 million views. Social media users were impressed, with one saying, “Not having your guests pay to travel to your wedding is pure class,” and another commenting, “Goodness gracious what level of billionaire is this.” Another user opined, “It’s called being considerate! Everyone who plans the destination wedding should be paying for the guests flights and accommodation at least.”

The wedding has also drawn comparisons to the Ambanis, who recently hosted two pre-wedding events for their son’s upcoming nuptials to Radhika Merchant. The first event, a three-day affair in Jamnagar, saw attendees like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg.

For the second pre-wedding event, the Ambanis hosted their friends and family on a cruise ship with stops throughout the Mediterranean.
