Covid-recovered patients in Gujarat find new problem

Ahmedabad: Coronavirus cases in Gujarat are now on the decline, leading to as many as 80% of beds in private Covid hospitals becoming vacant. However, many patients who have recovered from Covid-19 in the state have reported a disease called Guillain-Barre syndrome after mucosal mycosis. Ten such cases have been reported in the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, and some cases are from places other than Ahmedabad. This is an old disease leading to paralysis of the limbs, but has spread to patients who have recovered from corona.

Dr J.P. Modi, Superintendent of Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, said that about 10 patients are currently being treated at the Civil Hospital. The disease is normally seen one in a thousand, but the disease is being seen in patients who have recovered from Covid-19.

According to experts, the disease affects nerves throughout the body, causing paralysis and affecting the brain. Immunity is reduced as a result of Covid-19, immunosuppression due to toxilizumab and remedesivir injection. This has led to more such cases in patients who have recovered from Covid. According to doctors, the disease progresses in two to six weeks. If a viral infection occurs, the disease can still occur 20 days later. This is not a new disease, but an old one. A doctor at the Civil Hospital said that post-Covid, Guillain-Barre syndrome is now rampant, leading to paralysis of the limbs after coronary artery disease, weakness in the legs, especially in children.

Those recovering from corona are suffering from mucosal mycosis; 44 cases were reported in Ahmedabad in just two months, out of which nine died.
