Covid-19 hits Delhi medics

They work relentlessly to keep us safe but they themselves are living on the edge. There are reports of several health workers in the national Capital themselves getting infected with coronavirus. While North Delhi’s largest hospital Hindu Rao was sealed on Sunday after a nurse tested positive, a major alert was sounded in another hospital in the Capital. Delhi’s Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital was put on high alert after 44 health workers tested positive for coronavirus In a third and equally worrying incident, five doctors tested positive for Covid-19 in the city’s Safdarjung Hospital. While Hindu Rao Hospital was sealed temporarily after a nurse was reported positive late Saturday night, 15 cases were reported from Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital in the last 24 hours.

Till 25 April, 29 staff members tested positive for coronavirus in the hospital. Out of the 44 positive cases, approximately 30 are doctors and nurses. The hospital is situated in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area. In Safdarjung Hospital, over 150 people have been reportedly quarantined after contact tracing. In the past few days, the number of frontline workers who have been infected due to coronavirus has increased drastically. The cases in Safdarjung Hospital came to light just a day after three nurses had tested positive for coronavirus at the All Indian Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), which is right across the road. According to sources, over 40 workers have been quarantined at AIIMS since the nurses tested positive.

Earlier on Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made it clear that malls and markets will not open in the national Capital and no relaxation would be given beyond the Union Home Ministry guidelines.
