Cops use teargas, water cannons as farmers push through Haryana

Farmers’ agitation against the new agriculture laws took a new turn on Thursday when the Haryana government put up barricades to stop Punjab farmers coming in large numbers. All efforts, however, proved futile as they succeeded in reaching the Panipat toll plaza. Despite using the water cannons and teargas, the police failed to stop the farmers.

It is pertinent to mention that the surrounding roads of rural areas in Panipat also jammed as thousands of farmers were occupying these.While farmers under the leadership of Gurnam singh Chaduni, state president, Bhartiya Kisan Union, were heading to Delhi and amid this, they broke up barricades continuing their March forward. After crossing the Kurukshetra, they entered in Karnal where the administration had put up barricades. Likewise, the same happened in Panipat along with other districts.Tensions spiralled at many entry points of Haryana as the police force used water cannons and teargas to disperse farmers of Punjab trying to enter the state.

Punjab farmers entered Haryana from many points breaking the barricades as part of their Delhi Chalo march. The government had ordered police to ensure proper safety arrangements to stop the farmers from entering. In wake of this, the police had put up barricades at several points in the state including Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat and Jind districts. Even, a chaos also took place in Jind while Punjab farmers were trying to cross over to Jind border.Regarding the matter, Chief Minister Manohar Lal took on Punjab Chief Minister on social media saying that he is inciting innocent farmers. “I am trying to reach for the last three days but you stayed unreachable. You are only tweeting and running away from talks,” he said.In a reaction to this, Amrinder said that he was shocked at the Haryana CM’s statement. “It is the farmers who have to be convinced in MSP. You should have tried to talk to them before their Dilli Chalo march and if I am inviting farmers then why are Haryana farmers also marching to Delhi,” the Punjab CM said.
