“Congress Accuses Ministers of Spreading ‘Fake News’ on India’s $4 Trillion GDP”

Congress General Secretary Communications-in-Charge, Jairam Ramesh, accused senior ministers of the Modi government and a prominent businessman of tweeting false claims about India’s GDP during the Cricket World Cup final. Ramesh alleged that these tweets were aimed at “headline management” and creating euphoria.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ramesh stated, “Between 2:45 pm and 6:45 pm yesterday, when the nation was glued to watching the cricket match, various drumbeaters of the Modi Govt, including senior Union ministers from Rajasthan and Telangana, the Deputy CM of Maharashtra, as well as the PM’s most favourite businessman, tweeted that yesterday itself India’s GDP had crossed the $4 trillion mark.”

Ramesh pointedly referred to billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani, often associated with close ties to the Prime Minister. He labelled the news as “totally fake and bogus,” alleging that it was an attempt at “sycophancy and headline management.”

This accusation comes as Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the World Cup finale between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday evening. The Congress leader’s remarks indicate a political dispute over the government’s communication strategies during a high-profile event.
